Why 65 Roses?
The “65 Roses” story started in 1965 when Mary, a mother of 3 young boys found out they all had Cystic Fibrosis. Mary started to call any clubs, social services and organizations asking for financial support for Cystic Fibrosis research. Her youngest son Richard (Ricky) at just 4 years old heard his mother on the phone and said to her
“I know what you are working for”
“What am I working for?”
“you are working for 65 Roses”
Mary was speechless as he didn’t know he had Cystic Fibrosis. Since then “65 Roses” has been used by children of all ages to describe their disease as it is easier to say. This story has captured the hearts and emotions of all who have heard it. The rose appropriately the ancient symbol of love, has become the symbol of Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
